Is SnoreLab free? What the free version can and cannot do

An iPhone on a dark nightstand at night, its screen showing a row of seven LED dots, five lit green and two amber, with a charging cable.

Yes, with limits. SnoreLab is free to download and records your snoring on every night you run it, but the free version plays only a limited number of recordings per night, and after your first 5 sessions it cannot be run on 2 consecutive days (SnoreLab FAQ, October 2026). Premium removes both limits and adds full-night recording, BreathFlow, trends, export and backup. New users get a 7-day free trial. We make Snorly, a competing app, so check each line below against SnoreLab's own FAQ.

Key facts
  • After the first 5 sessions, the free version "cannot be run for 2 consecutive days" (SnoreLab FAQ, October 2026).
  • Free playback is "limited" per night; SnoreLab does not publish the number (SnoreLab FAQ).
  • SnoreLab saves 20 audio samples per night by default; that is a default setting, not the free-version cap (How SnoreLab Works).
  • New users get a 7-day free trial of Premium; the US App Store lists in-app purchases from $5.99 to $59.99, including monthly, yearly and one-time options (SnoreLab FAQ and App Store listing, October 2026).
  • SnoreLab has 4.7 stars from about 57,500 US App Store ratings and has run on iPhone and Android for over a decade.

What does SnoreLab's free version include?

The core of the app. According to SnoreLab's FAQ, the free version lets you record your night, see charts and stats in the morning, listen to captured audio, and tag remedies and factors. Snoring detection runs on the phone, and the morning screen shows the Snore Score, an open-ended number where lower is better; SnoreLab says a typical score for a new user is around 25.

So for a first look, the free version answers the main question: do you snore, and how much. The limits show up on the second and third question: how does tonight compare with the last two weeks, and did the remedy work.

What are the limits of SnoreLab free?

Two limits and a list of Premium-only features. The table is built from SnoreLab's FAQ as of 20 October 2026.

Free Premium
Nights you can record After the first 5 sessions, not on 2 consecutive days Unlimited
Playback per night Limited number of recordings All recordings
Full-night recording No Yes
BreathFlow and Breathing Disturbance Index No Yes
Session history Not full Full
Trends charts and calendars No Yes
Remedies and factors tagging Yes Yes
Audio backup to the cloud No Yes
Export for a healthcare professional No Yes
Soundscapes for falling asleep No Yes

The consecutive-days rule is the one people notice. In practice it means that after your first 5 sessions the free version records at most every other night.

How much does SnoreLab Premium cost?

SnoreLab does not publish a price list. Its FAQ says the easiest way to see the price is to tap an Upgrade prompt in the app, which shows the price for your country without charging you. The US App Store listing shows ten in-app purchases between $5.99 and $59.99, including 1 Month, 3 Months, 1 Year and a one-time purchase, which is likely a mix of current and older price points.

New users get a 7-day free trial. If you start it, set a reminder for day 6 and cancel in iPhone Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions, if you do not want to keep it.

Can you test a remedy with SnoreLab free?

You can, but slowly. A fair remedy test needs nights with and without the change, recorded close together so nothing else shifts: three baseline nights and four nights with the remedy is the protocol we use in our articles, for example on nasal strips.

With the every-other-night rule, those 7 nights stretch over 13 days once your first 5 sessions are used up. That is workable for a pillow, harder for something that changes week to week, like a cold or a new medication. Remedy tagging itself is free, so the comparison is possible; it just takes twice as long.

Is SnoreLab Premium worth it?

It is worth it if you want to track snoring night after night: every night recorded, the full history, trends, BreathFlow and a report to share with a doctor. SnoreLab is the most established app in the category, it runs on Android, and its remedy library and community are large.

It is less worth it if all you want is to hear yourself snore a few times, or to prove it to a partner. The free version covers that, within the playback limit.

Is there a free alternative to SnoreLab?

There are several, each with its own trade-off.

App Free part Catch
Snorly (ours) Recording, playback of every clip, score, timeline, breathing flags and history, every night iPhone only; full-night audio, remedy comparisons, PDF report and Apple Health are Premium
Voice Memos Records the whole night One 8-hour file you scrub by hand, about half a gigabyte
Do I Snore or Grind Free Not updated since 2019
SnoreClock Not free; one-time purchase Simpler app, no breathing flags

The longer comparison is in best snoring apps, and the two-app version in Snorly vs SnoreLab. If you are also looking at sleep trackers, Snorly vs ShutEye covers the subscription side.

What to do tonight
  1. If you are new to SnoreLab, decide before bed whether you want the 7-day trial; if you start it, set a reminder for day 6.
  2. Put the phone on the nightstand, 0.5 to 1 m from your head, plugged in, screen down.
  3. Skip alcohol tonight so the first night is a fair baseline.
  4. In the morning, play the loudest recording first; with a limited number of plays, that is the one that counts.
