Snorly vs SnoreLab: Which Snore Recorder Fits You?

Two charcoal neumorphic tiles side by side, one with a glowing green LED waveform and one with a dim white waveform

SnoreLab has recorded snoring for over a decade and is the app most people try first. Snorly is a newer iPhone app from an independent developer with a different focus: it saves only the seconds it heard snoring, keeps every recording on the phone, and grades the night on a 0–100 scale. We built Snorly, so read this as a comparison by one of the two sides; every row below is something you can check yourself in five minutes with both apps installed.

Key facts
  • Both apps record automatically and give you a score, a timeline and playback of snoring samples (SnoreLab and Snorly, App Store listings, September 2026).
  • SnoreLab's score is open-ended and lower is better; Snorly's is 0–100 and higher is better (see what a snore score is).
  • Snorly processes audio on the device and has no accounts; SnoreLab's privacy label lists analytics and identifiers like most apps in the category.
  • Both flag breathing patterns; neither diagnoses sleep apnea, and both say so.

Where SnoreLab is the better choice

You are on Android. You want a remedy marketplace inside the app. You value a large community of users and years of published guidance about the Snore Score, including a median to compare yourself against. You already have a long SnoreLab history and want trends to continue.

Where Snorly is the better choice

You want the proof more than the graph: tap the loudest bar of the night and hear that exact moment. You sleep next to someone and want every clip time-stamped so the "I don't snore" conversation ends with a play button. You care that audio never leaves the phone and that no account exists to leak. You prefer a one-time lifetime price to a rolling subscription. You want a breathing-pause count per hour and a PDF you can hand to a doctor.

What both apps cannot do

Neither app measures blood oxygen, breathing effort or sleep stages. Neither can tell you whether a silent pause was an apnea event. A recording that shows snoring, silence, then a gasp is a reason to see a doctor, and a home sleep test or a lab study is how apnea is actually diagnosed. Read snoring vs sleep apnea for the pattern to look for.

How to compare them yourself in three nights

  1. Install both. Put the phones on the same nightstand, same distance from your head, both plugged in.
  2. Record three nights. In the morning, count the snoring episodes you can hear in each app's playback and compare with the timeline.
  3. Note which app made you actually listen. The app you open at breakfast is the one that will change something.

Related questions

Is SnoreLab free?

SnoreLab is free to download with limits; playback of all samples, trends and export are in Premium. The current limits are in SnoreLab's FAQ.

Does Snorly work on Android?

No. Snorly is an iPhone app. SnoreLab and SnoreClock cover Android.

Can I move my SnoreLab history to Snorly?

No. There is no import between snoring apps. Run both for a week if you want overlapping data.

Which app is more accurate?

Published tests of phone-based snore detection report high agreement with manual counts for loud snoring and weaker results for quiet snoring in noisy rooms (Chiang 2021; Figueras-Alvarez 2020). Placement and room noise matter more than the app: half a metre to a metre from your head, no fan pointed at the phone.

Snorly is a snore recorder and tracker, not a medical device. It does not diagnose sleep apnea or any other condition. If you notice pauses in breathing, gasping or daytime sleepiness, talk to a doctor.
